Development of Metroid Prime 4 will be headed by Retro Studios, the original developer of the Nintendo series. According to senior executive officer at Nintendo, Shinya Takahashi “the current development progress has not reached the standards we seek in a sequel to the Metroid Prime series.” It seems that the original announcement for Metroid Prime 4, which debuted at E3 2017, has not lead to a lot of progress. Takahashi’s full statement is included in the video below.
The original E3 2017 announcement was only a simple teaser and didn’t feature anything other than a logo, but fans were excited nonetheless. With no updates at E3 2018, it seems that Nintendo’s new development team, which had taken point on the project, did not perform to the expected standards. Nintendo’s update indicates that Retro Studios will now take the helm. The original developer of the series, the team will essentially be starting from scratch.
It’s good to finally have an update on the game, but it’s clear that Metroid Prime 4 for the Nintendo Switch will not be released for quite some time.
