Yesterday, gamers were finally graced with the private demo from E3 2018 of the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077. Polish development team CD Projekt Red, the masterminds behind The Witcher series, released the 48 minute walkthrough with in-depth commentary and in stunning 4K. The demo showcases major gameplay and world-build features, as well as what facets of the game makes it different, all with engaging and informative commentary. Impressive doesn’t exactly describe the demo the way we’d like to; suffice it to say that the gameplay, let along the presentation itself, is textbook perfection.
If Blade Runner and Skyrim got down and dirty, their baby would likely look like this exquisite (and technically unfinished) first-person RPG. The devs with CD Projekt Red have put their insane love of detail and narrative driven gameplay into an entirely new medium for them. From the medieval and third-person adventure of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to a future-based action shooter is ambitious to say the least.
Players will be open to design a character from top to bottom or vice versa based on their preference. Sex, appearance, and event background will be up to the player once they start their game. The demo even explains that Cyberpunk 2077 will employ a “fluid” class system. Seemingly, players will be allowed to customize, fine tune, or straight up change their class at their discretion.

And what are these tailor-fit character going to be doing, you may ask? Well, they’re making their way up in the world of the notorious and dystopian criminal underworld of Night City. This Northern California mega-city is a hotbed for crime of all degrees, from highly wealthy “corpo militech” to scum bag “scavs.” Your character “V” is a big dreamer when it comes to the odd jobs that the city affords the adventurous. The demo showcased just what kind of upgraded implants players can purchase to make their variation of V the most deadly/stealthy/intelligent one-person criminal enterprise possible.
Pair the demo’s insight into the game’s incredible, living and breathing open world (which follows a full day cycle), the presentation is one of the finer ones we have seen. It was well worth the wait. Did we mention that players will have access to a number of insane vehicles for traversing the sprawling city? Just based off this extensive video, this one if going to be a doozy, folks.
Cyberpunk 2077, a work in progress, is slated to hit major consoles in June of 2019.
