Will Far Cry New Dawn Strike Gold?

Ubisoft's Far Cry 5 was moderately received but left some players in a weird mood. Taking place in the middle nowhere in Hope County, Montana, the series shifted to a mildly political tone with a crazy cult and leader prophesying impending doom. SPOILER ALERT: players found that the cult was right, and boom goes the world. The ending of Far Cry 5 involves nukes, fire, and general unpleasantness. A lot of players found it to be kind of a let-down, not excluding myself. You play through quite a medley of deadly scenarios, all cementing this cult's absolute lack of sanity, all to end with them being right! It's a solid installment in a very fun series, but there were some serious strings attached.

With that being said, Ubisoft announced a new project during The Game Awards last week that struck us as ambitious in all the right ways. Far Cry New Dawn will take place 17 years after the ending of Far Cry 5, in a post-apocalyptic reality of Hope County. How cool is that? Not to play my hand or anything, but this sounds like a perfect decision from the Ubisoft team. Far Cry has always taken place in regions under the oppressive grip of an army or band of pirates, but the settings have always been based in reality. I never really pictured how a Far Cry game could work in a fictitious version of our world (no Blood Dragon jokes, please).

Let's face it, we all know that this will essentially be a bit of Fallout, bit of Mad Max all stirred together with Far Cry's gameplay systems. But hot damn how awesome does that sound? Awesome car chases, defending survivor settlements, and facing off against the Twins might be the coolest looking Far Cry game I've seen teased in a while.

I don't really have much of a point to this article, aside from pointing out my intrigue in the new game. Who knows how it will play out come release time, but I'm feeling pretty optimistic after this trailer. Far Cry New Dawn hits markets on February 15th on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
