Santa Monica Studio’s critically acclaimed God of War has just cemented itself as the fastest-selling PlayStation game of all time. It has now surpassed the titanous Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and it did so in just three days. Yesterday, Sony Interactive announced that from April 20th to 22nd, the title sold well over 3 million units. With such a major achievement in gameplay and story-telling, and in revitalizing such a beloved franchise, the studio expressed many thanks to those who picked up a copy during its opening weekend.
When confronted with the incredible landmark, head of Santa Monica Shannon Studstill shared these remarks: “I would like to personally thank the millions of fans around the world who decided to embark on Kratos’ latest adventure with us. Your support is truly inspiring, and it’s a reason why we push ourselves every day to go beyond the boundaries of play.”
God of War joins an equally impressive suite of PlayStation exclusives that have shattered sales metrics expectations. The aforementioned Uncharted 4 previously held the honor of fasting selling title, having sold over 2.7 million copies in seven days. Other titles that have neared the top include 2017's game of the year, Horizon: Zero Dawn, coming in at 2.5 million copies during its opening.
Santa Monica’s God of War follows the trials of wandering greek god Kratos as he passes through the unfamiliar realm of Norse gods. Accompanied by the young and capable Atreus, the game is a marvel of storytelling, and an incredible showcase of thrilling gameplay.
