Like it came straight out of my sequel-generating dreams, Naughty Dog’s new trailer for the incoming The Last of Us Part II is gorgeous but brutal. It’s like Cormac McCarthy’s The Road and True Detective had a friggin’ baby, so there you've been warned. The new trailer showcases the exciting sequel to the 2013 masterpiece, which already promises to continue its predecessor’s tradition of intense, almost sensory-depriving violence.

Set in the near future after a plague of nightmarishly scientific soundness has destroyed the majority of the planet, The Last of Us is first and foremost a survival game. Mix that in with dreadful violence and horror as well as the most fun gameplay in a while, and you’ve got yourself a 2013 Game of the Year winner. While a previous trailer showed us the return of some familiar faces in The Last of Us Part II, this one shows us strangers. Strangers, who, are apparently very very upset at just about everything.

And who wouldn’t be with all this rain, violence, and zombie-like infections everywhere? The theme of constant struggle among the survivors of the cordyceps brain infection is seemingly just as prominent in this upcoming game as it was in the first. While we can expect the game to further follow the trials and tribulations of Joel and Ellie, who knows what new stories and perspectives it will show?

While violent to a point of cringing, the presence in this four minute trailer, is almost just as poetic as the entire first game. Only time will show us more, but we are thrilled to see how this sequel plays out. While it doesn’t give us an idea of a release date, we can expect The Last of Us Part II to drop for PlayStation 4 sometime in 2018.
