Noted industry thought leader, video game critic, and famed cultural feminist theorist Anita Sarkeesian will be a headlining keynote speaker at the upcoming European Women in Video Games Conference. She, along with programmer and CEO of Tru Luv Media, Brie Code, will speak at the UK-based conference for the first time.

Anita is famous for her widely popular Feminist Frequency YouTube Channel, a media criticism series during which she focuses on the inherently sexist characteristics of some video games. Her observations have often been met with appreciation from viewers and experts, or immediate scorn, typically with violent and sexist overtones. A notable series within Feminist Frequency is called Tropes v. Women in Video Games, which fearlessly addresses many unspoken grievances of the modern video game in relation to equal portrayal of men and women. The episode above includes excellent insight on companion culture - how non-playable characters, namely female ones, are portrayed and utilized in popular games.

This conference in London this September will be the seventh of its kind, hosted by East London Arts and Music.
