Surprised, gamers? Following a leak last week of a Destiny 2 poster, developer Bungie and publisher Activision officially announced a sequel to the contentious adventure game Destiny just yesterday. Destiny 2 posters were spotted by the watchful and unending eyes of the "internet" and speculations rushed around. Now, the folks behind everyone's favorite "love it, hate it" online-multiplayer game are coming straight at us with official marketing and announcement materials.

The image floated on the game's Twitter page depicts the "Last City on Earth," a location next to a social hub in the game for "Guardians," the playable characters of the game. The City, which has not been an overly explored element, appears to be in flames and under attack. Furthermore, "The Traveler," an a sentient god-like being which floats above the city protecting humanity also appears in distress. This image was blasted across the game's multiple social media accounts to much praise and criticism. Destiny has been criticized in the past for lacking substance and plot structure. While not many gamers are thus far moved by the major announcement, a brief teaser trailer may ring them in.

Featuring a popular NPC, Cayde-6, this trailer teases some new narrative developments and directions for Destiny. It also details that a full trailer will be released on March 30th. Cayde-6 was a major character in Destiny's Year 2 content expansion, The Taken King which was very popular. With any luck, Bungie is absorbing the wealth of constructive criticism during the three years since Destiny's 2014 release.

The leaked poster had September 8th as Destiny 2's slated release date, but no official date has been announced. We can expect a final date during this new trailer on March 30th.
