Ubisoft's online multiplayer, Tom Clancy's The Division, is currently celebrating its two year anniversary, and yesterday, the open-world mogul announced that two massive DLCs that will make up The Division's second year will both be free for all players. The action role-playing game's first year included three costly DLCs, but this coming year will see a completely new approach.

The Division takes place in a version of New York City beset by a deadly disease and the ensuing riots and violence that follow. Players play agents tasked with maintaining civilian peace and blasting the daylights out of a variety of hostile factions. While there's a story and plenty of unique online multiplayer game modes to enjoy, the game faced harsh criticism for its lack of variety and fully-developed gameplay styles. With good will in mind, creative director Julian Gerighty explained during a Twitch Livestream that “All of the content updates that we’re going to provide are going to be free content updates,” and that "there is no season pass for year two."
This will undoubtedly draw back a number of the game's former players, and attract plenty of newly interested gamers. While the two upcoming DLCs are unannounced, the team at Ubisoft says that players can expect new gameplay features, new story content, and competitive events.
You can read more about the game's incoming approach to more narrative gameplay in this interview with Gerighty on UbiBlog. “We can’t really deliver story missions that will fit into the RPG aspects of the game in a simple way. So we’re not going to be doing the classic main mission type of thing, but narrative content is something that we are definitely looking at.”
A release date is currently unknown, but The Division players can expect these updates and DLCs to become available at the same time for each major console.
