Well, it’s official! Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has confirmed that a sequel to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor will be released this summer. Following a leak yesterday from Target’s online retail store, developers of the 2014 game existing in The Lord of the Rings universe dropped an official announcement and trailer. The trailer shows our anticipated return to the storyline of the “Bright Lord,” Middle-earth: Shadow of War.
Taking place several years before the events of The Fellowship of the Ring, Shadow of War is slated to further explore the relationship between the undead hero, Talion of Gondor, and the ancient and helpful Elven spirit, Celebrimbor. Monolith Studio has also explained that it will expand upon the Nemesis system, an algorithm that influences the behaviors of your enemies based on the actions you perform throughout the game world, the menacing plains of Mordor, realm of Sauron.
The trailer seems to open up a larger narrative, as Talion and Celebrimbor craft a new ring of power to battle the dark forces of Mordor, and Sauron gains strength and threatens the cities of men. It is unknown whether the game will take players outside of the land of Mordor to other corners of the Legendarium.

Several editions of the upcoming open world game have been revealed as well. The Standard, Silver, Gold, and Mithril editions will all offer players an expanding amount of extra game content, including story DLCs and utilities.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor will be released on August 22nd for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro, and Windows PC. A gameplay reveal will take place on March 8th.
