We all loved The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We gave it our Very Best Game of 2015 recognition, and have been enamored with the incredible game world in the year since. The studio behind the marvel, Polish developer CD Projekt Red has just earned a hefty sum from the Polish government. The Polish National Center for Research and Development recently went to work doling out over $27 million dollars to a number of domestic game studios, CD Projekt Red being awarded the largest sum.

This department has recognized that the game industry has had a boom in Poland, and wants to embrace the benefits of a thriving local industry. CI Games, Flying Wild Hog, Techland and several other developers have also received funds. According to WCCFTech CD Projekt Red has been given the largest sum, 30 million Polish zloty, or $7 million.

The studio behind The Witcher has explained that the money will be used to see four different projects come to fruition: city creation, seamless multiplayer, cinematic feel and animation excellence. From a reviewer's standpoint, CD Projekt Red exemplified many of these within The Witcher 3's vibrant and reactive world, but it looks like they're aiming even higher. The studio will likely be applying this idea of "seamless multiplayer" to the fabled Cyberpunk 2077, which would be their first multiplayer.

To see multiple companies receive government grants of considerable size is interesting to say the least. Will other nations follow suit in regards to their own local developers? Time will tell.
