Blizzard Entertainment has released details on an upcoming map to be added to Overwatch. The popular online multiplayer game has been available since May, and has been updated with new characters, weapons and gear. Eichenwalde, a German castle surrounded by a quaint burg, will be introduced as the first new map for the game this September.
Players of the critically acclaimed first-person shooter can expect a combination of two game modes in Eichenwalde. The modes "assault" and "escort" will meet on this battleground. One team will be charged with guiding and protecting a battering ram through the town as it approaches the castle gates. Meanwhile, the opposing team will defend from the assault from the battlements of Eichenwalde.
This beautiful new map continues the game's style in generating environments and structures inspired by real-world locations, in this case, the Neuschwanstein Castle in Schwangau, Germany. While the castle itself will be a sight to behold, the town that envelopes the base of the fortress is a wonderful example of the colorful and vibrant visual displays that we have come to expect from Overwatch. The description of Eichenwalde explains that it is the home of the robotic character Bastion, and the site of the valiant last-stand of the hero Balderich von Alder. A background video about this battle and the hero Bastion, titled "The Last Bastion" has been released during Gamescom.
Overwatch's Eichenwalde multiplayer map will be available for players this September.
