Upon it's official announcement during 2015's Electronic Entertainment Expo, Horizon Zero Dawn has been a topic of some discussion throughout the gaming community. The open world game will follow the adventures of Aloy, a young woman who lives on a future Earth that is overrun with robotic "animals." This title will be the first release from developer Guerrilla Games since the Killzone series, and more information on the game was published just a few days.
Not only has lead quest designer David Ford helped confirm the release date as (most likely) late February, but he also explained the nature of the game's mission. Aloy's world is all that's left of an ancient Earth, whose cities and nations have disappeared due to an unknown catastrophe. In the wake of that mysterious event, mechanical dinosaurs now roam the booming environments of the planet, now barely touched by a dwindling humanity. Meanwhile, humans now live in tribes, a sort of Neolithic lifestyle influenced by the remnants of of old technology, and the basics of human survival. Aloy ventures out from her protective tribal home to better understand her world.
Ford has elaborated on the progression style that the game will have. Aloy's quests in Horizon Zero Dawn will have a role playing game-like approach. She will be able to initiate quests from many points in her story or in her world. Also, her skill sets will progress along a point system that gives her access to more weapons, gear and customization options. Players will be excited to hear that the story will incorporate either small narratives, or the entire global situation.
Overall, this game looks a thrilling exploration into an ambitious story. Gamers are very interested in the mystery behind anthropologically understanding a ruined Earth, 1,000 years in the making. Horizon Zero Dawn is set to be released on February 28th, 2017 for the PlayStation 4.
