In the wake of the rise of the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, developer Bungie has effectively discontinued its updates for their online game, Destiny. The popular adventure game is still supported on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but this week's patch will be the very last one. While most Destiny players blast across the Solar System on next-gen consoles, Bungie has been slowly but surely winding down "legacy console" support.

Support will be provided for occasional bugs and server problems, but new content will no longer become available for Guardians still rocking their last-gen systems. The 2.3.1 update will help players keep their game functional, but not progressive. Players will have access to the primary Destiny game as well as last year's Destiny: The Taken King and all of its add-ons. However, if a Guardian would like to continue their intergalactic adventures with the upcoming Destiny: Rise of Iron, they will have to find themselves an Xbox One or PS4.

The newest chapter of Destiny is out September 20th for Xbox One and PS4, exclusively.
