EA has released the trailer for Battlefield 1, the next installment in the Battlefield series. The trailer features a world consumed by total war, (World War I , to be specific) confirming several rumors of developer DICE's decision to go back in time. While the footage is claimed to be the in-game engine, there is no definite telling what the game will look like. However, the legendary Frostbite engine seems to be hard at work bringing players a living and dynamic environment. Nevertheless, the first look at the beloved multiplayer phenomenon impresses on several levels.
While Battlefield's history started with World War II, there has never been an attempt to take the game to the First World War. Following the reveal, EA and DICE studio executives described the new gameplay opportunities this period has to offer. Horseback riding, zeppelin flying, and poison gas will all be incorporated into the upcoming first-person shooter. The trailer does tease some possible single player gameplay, but so far not much is known of any campaigns. Clearly, the game will indeed span the entire world, seeing as the desert campaigns of Lawrence of Arabia are featured. The cover art features an African-American soldier as the game's poster-boy, but we're not sure if he will be the story's main character.
EA has plans to release multiple editions of the new game at varying costs. The Standard Edition will be up for $59.99, the Early Enlister Edition will be $79.99 and will come with several expansion packs, and the Collector's Edition will find its way into player's homes for $219.99. Those who purchase the Collector's Edition can expect access to all DLCs, and plenty of extra goodies.
Battlefield 1 will be released October 21st on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
