Hello darkness, my old friend. The Coalition, the game developer heading Gears of War 4 has released a telling new teaser trailer for the upcoming game. Set to bring us back to the troubled world of Sera, the first detailed trailer shows a few very familiar characteristics of the now ten-year-old Gears of War. The trailer is horrifying, mysterious, and full of narrative promise. It's safe to say the world is once again ready to fire up their lancers.
The teaser shows some pretty classic Gears trailer tropes: sad music, running from monsters, and a lot of story implications. The game will follow the events of the phenomenal Gears of War 3, and players will take control of the son of fabled soldier Marcus Fenix. Our screen shows our main character, J.D. Fenix, running and gunning from a group of barely-visible monsters. The forest is dark and the feeling is remarkably similar to the famous Gears of War trailer "Mad World."
A series of flashback shows a young J.D. running from his mother, heritage character Anya Stroud (instead of horrible unknown creatures) to his father, who is planting a tree. The mood is bright, loving, and indicative of the final victory achieved at the conclusion of Gears of War 3. It clearly didn't last, but it's still incredibly touching to see the literal killing machine, Marcus Fenix creating life instead of taking it. So touching in fact, that we're already ramped up to destroy whatever horrible things have taken the Locust Horde's place and ruined the perfectly good tree that Marcus planted!
Gears of War has delivered some pretty outstanding games in the past. Fun, gritty, and absolutely intriguing, we'll be more than happy to bring you more information before its release this October. While it's under new management with The Coalition, this will hopefully be a great installment in such a legendary series.
